'Nature's Palette' - acrylic impasto on mini canvas (5 x 4 inches) |
This is another mini landscape that I started a little while ago and just added some finishing touches to, today. As always, I have S to thank for the gorgeous photos he takes that I then use as a reference. This was taken at Sandside Head which isn't far from our cottage.
Ah, sunsets. I vaguely remember them as, this week, it seems that winter has hi-jacked summer and poor autumn hasn't even had a look in! I've had to don hat, gloves, scarf, ear muffs and waterproof jacket to walk the dogs on the beach that mere weeks ago I walked on barefoot in short sleeves. I'm sure August used to still be a summer month!

In other news, I've actually been working on something totally different this week - different from anything I've painted so far because it is neither an animal nor a landscape! It's a little set of two paintings and I should hopefully be finished the first one at the weekend so once I've shown it to the person it's intended for, I'll be able to post it here and Facebook (not that it seems to matter as Facebook's weird algorithms ensure that very few folk actually see anything on pages that aren't making them money in the form of ad revenue!)Has anyone else noticed that the more 'likes' their page gets, the less people seem to interact with your posts? The more Facebook changes the more I'm tempted to just ditch it altogether but I'm too nosy and I like trawling through all the guff that clogs up my newsfeed to find posts from actual friends to see what they're up to!
This is my little PC companion (as in 'personal computer' not 'political correctness') Lily is the most affectionate cat ever and wants nothing more than to sit on your knee - all day if you'd let her! It makes typing a little more challenging but I love her snuggly warmth on my lap as I tap away at the keyboard!

Lily the PC cat |
I'll be linking up with Paint Party Friday this week and catching up with new art from some of the regulars and newbies at the Party.
yes yes, I know what you mean about facebook, its annoying, I would love to deactivate but my children hold me to stay, your landscape is beautiful, I love the texture to these works, I also love your lap top companion, she is lovely, I need one of those, lol!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely acrylic painting, Nic. :) I'm not familiar with impasto. Sorry. Is that what gives it the texture? Beautiful! :) xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coloured sky! Hat, gloves and ear muffs in August ... !?? Yuk, I'm starting to doubt our decision to go back to Europe ... ;-) Lily is so cute, there's nothing more cosy than a warm purring cat in your lap i.m.o. I have a love-hate relationship with Facebook. I don't understand anything about which things end up in my newsfeed and which ones don't. I just want to see everything I signed up for, but they seem to think they should decide it for me. Very irritating ....
ReplyDeleteanother beautiful sunset painting Nic! Sorry to hear about the sudden change in weather-perhaps it'll warm up again before winter is official-I mean, really, it is still August! Lily is so sweet-I'd accommodate her too:)
ReplyDeleteI love the gritty texture. Amazing work.
ReplyDeleteGogeous texture in this piece and waht a loely cat?!
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF!
FROEBELSTERNCHEN FROM AUSTRIA
lovely acrylic landscape!
ReplyDeleteThe sky and light in this are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnother beauty with great texture! You are absolutely right about facebook. What's on computer is never on my daughters phone so she misses half her stuff.. They feed you what they want. At night it seems to repeat. I think it's only a matter of time until someone comes up with something better.

Lily is beautiful as is your new painting, fab colours. Happy PPF, Annette x

The sunset painting is so-o-o gorgeous. It's rare that I see one as colorful here. Lily is cute as a bug in a rug!
ReplyDeleteLove the sunset painting. Lily is very cute and I agree with you on Facebook, I just don't go there any more!
ReplyDeleteI was about to comment on your painting, then I saw Lily, how adorable, and I'm sure she is a lot of help.
ReplyDeleteYour mini landscapes are really wonderful, including this one, I like the darkness of the sea.
The weather here goes from boiling hot to freezing, pouring rain to bone dry, and that's just in one day. Possibly summer will come back to you just as quickly as it left.
Love the painting. What are impasto acrylics?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and inspiring painting! Lily looks adorable. Have a lovely and creative week!

Ohh this is such a dynamic piece. I really like the texture. Very nice. Yes I have notice that on FB. The changes they constantly make are geared for their pockets. Can't wait to see your new piece.

That is a wonderful sunset. Just beautiful. And I adore your cat with her little bent back ear. She seems so interested in what you are doing. :D
ReplyDeleteGorgeous painting!Love the details!
ReplyDeleteYour painting is stunning. The colors are brilliant. I am curious about the acrylic impasto. Love the resulting texture.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, vibrant colors in your sunset painting! We have been SO HOT here in Missouri - nearly 100 degrees today! I am waiting until the sun goes down before jumping in the pool - that is how hot it is! Love your Lily cat - she is precious!
ReplyDeleteAwesome work as always.:)
ReplyDeleteI love your latest landscape Nic! Have you taken your series in to a local Gallery or shop yet?
ReplyDeleteAnd Lilly is adorable!
I find that my facebook is getting clogged up with ads rather than actual posts - not to mention the ice-bucket challenge more recently, which even I got roped in to!!! I nearly nominated you, but then realised that you are probably quite cold enough up there in the highlands!!
Your little landscapes are making me want to visit Scotland more and more. Love Lily the PC cat. Give her a scratch for me.
